Reflection 2

My writing now is better than before because I learned from my mistakes, such as previous spelling mistakes and grammar, also in vocabulary. The most help is from my teacher; when I give him my writing he corrects my mistakes and he tells me what is correct. Also, I learned when I am taking the words or the sayings from the site I must put his name and the site where I took it. In other words, I must use correct citation and reference.

Pollution in the UAE

Pollution defined as the addition of energy to the environment which increases faster than the environment can accommodate. The UAE faces different types of pollution which impact the environment negatively. They try to reduce the negative influence by many steps. According to Dubai and air pollution article “The Environmental Protection and Safety Section (EPSS) of the Dubai government began air monitoring in 1988 for basic air pollution programs and updated their monitoring programs in 1993 and 1994”.  Vehicles and industries are the biggest pollution sources in the UAE, due to the huge number of vehicles and the industries in the small area. This essay will talk about air pollution which is one of most harmful types of pollution in the UAE.
Air pollution is a problem that people need to be aware about. There are two main sources of air pollution in the UAE such as vehicle exhausts and industry smoke. According to Mohammed N Al Khan, the thick smog in the last three years leads to a spike in health care which came from the vehicle exhausts (Khan, 2008 ). Moreover, the transport sector alone increases the air pollution which costs 5 billion to protect people from health problems (Khan, 2008 ). Furthermore, the automobiles in the UAE are significantly increased which also increases the trips (Dubai and Air Pollution). This shows how much the automobile emission problems in the UAE need to be controlled. In addition, industries also contribute to the air pollution where the impact of their pollution is hard to deal with. Sulphur dioxide and particulate matter are causing concern when they exceed the air pollution limit in the UAE (U.A.E. Air Pollution Control Laws, 2008 ). Air pollution causes many diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis and lung cancer.
There are several steps that the UAE takes to reduce the impact of vehicle and industry pollution in the air. The governments gather information about the level of pollution in the air. That shows how the UAE government is aware about the pollution problem. After that, they start the first step where they try to reduce the sulphur in diesel (U.A.E. Air Pollution Control Laws, 2008 ). Moreover, they try to use green engine oil which is a type of eco- friendly product. They also pass laws for all industries to reduce their negative impact in the environment. In addition, the EAD (Environmental Protection Agency-Abu Dhabi) was established in 1996(U.A.E. Air Pollution Control Laws, 2008 ). Their responsibilities are “for assisting the Federal Environmental Agency and the UAE Ministry of the Environment and Water, in making sure the laws are implemented” (U.A.E. Air Pollution Control Laws, 2008 ). There are some people who have responsibility to make sure the company follows the law.
In conclusion, air pollution is one of big pollution types that impact the environment negatively in UAE. The main two solution resources in the UAE as the government see are vehicles and industries. Their impact is harmful on the atmosphere. The governments try to reduce this impact by many steps. Pollution is a situation which needs big steps from all countries and people to reduce their impact which affects our organism.

Reflection 1

Writing for me is very important and I work hard to improve this skill in English writing. People need writing everywhere especially in school, in higher education and in the work field. Furthermore, in my studying the teacher examines our writing and helps us to improve it.  Some people use writing as a job skill. Writing is different; for example, in education and the work situation people need to write in an official way. On other hand, in writing a letter to a friend or family or cousin they can use an informal way. I think writing expresses the personality of people, so they can write their opinion and explain a theory from their point of view. Writing gives the people a chance to improve their communication with people; if there is a chance for the readers to express their ideas about what you wrote and what you think about special issues. Moreover, I think writing is important in my major career which is business; some projects in business need from the manager to write about his project and if the managers have a high writing skill in explaining their ideas they will attract the other parties easily. As a result, they will increase their profit and build a good relationship with other businesses. I think writhing is a soul which every person needs to improve and protect.

Technology

Technology is used everywhere, in school, work, hospital and company. People use technology to make their life easy and to finish their job fast, so they can save their time. One of these technologies is the computer. The computer is the most important technology which has appeared everywhere. I use a computer in my work and it helps me in my study. This essay will explain the history of computers and how computers are used.
The word computer has many meanings in several countries such as in the American Heritage Dictionary it means “someone who computes”. “Today, the word computer refers to computing devices, whether or not they are electronic, programmable, or capable of ‘storing and retrieving’ data" (Onifade, A). The history of the computer started 2000 years ago (Meyers,  J). Desktop calculators provided an idea for Babbage to design an automatic mechanical device which would help them to develop a mathematical table (Meyers, J). Then they produced electronic digital computers for military use in World War 2. It was a very large computer as big as a room size. In the 1960′s, they started to develop and change the design of the computer to make it fast and easy to use with great capacity (Meyers, J). Every year they developed small and fast computers with high capacity like laptops which are easy to carry by hand.
The computer has multi uses in many places. In my job I use a computer to organize data and insert information about employees and customers. Also, we use computers for selling and buying things. In addition, I use a computer in meetings to write agendas and to write notes about what happens in the meeting. Also, some business companies use websites to sell their items so they need computers to create websites. Sometime businessmen use computers for PowerPoint and Excel Microsoft (Kibbi, 1995). Moreover, in my study I use a computer to search for articles, journals and books for my project. It helps in communication between the students and teachers. Teachers use computers as a tool support them in their teaching (Kibbi,1995).
To sum up, this report shows the history of the computer. In addition, I discuss the most important uses of computers in work and in study. In the past computers were big and had a small capacity whereas today it is small and has high capacity. It helps student in their study and homework. I think computers change our life and make it much easier than before.
Professionals in business use computers to design an internal control system. Therefore their work will be complete and accurate. As we know accountants have a complex job which needs high levels of security and efficiency, so computers help them to save their time and to get good results. Moreover HR persons need to use computers to organize their work and to pass announcements for the employees. Communicating using computers for business people is much easier than before.
Using computers help people to be more confident about their information. For example my computer helps me access to the internet and find reliable information and resources. Using Microsoft office in doing my homework and projects corrects for me my spelling and other mistakes.
"Efficiency of computer-managed instruction in terms of student time; determination of total classroom instruction time by accreditation and administrative rules; relationship between course length, study time and student learning” (Grimes Niss, 1989). Computers improve our efficiency in work and study. Computers change our life in a positive way.
Computers have many changes quickly over a short time. The size of computers has been reduced sharply; also the power of the computer has been changed. Computers in future will be more changeable than today. People will use robots instead of people in dangerous industries. “Robots are likely to do a great deal of work that is simply too dangerous for humans to accomplish” (The Future of Computers, 2011). Another type of future computer is the Quantum computer; it transforms experience for business and home users. Quantum computers are expected to be giant leap forward in computing technology. Furthermore, nanotechnology is one of the powerful future computing aspects (The Future of Computers, 2011).

The Famous Car

Most people like to have a fancy car for luxury, safety, being unique and special. Ferrari, Mustang, Porsche, Maserati and Bugatti these are most well-known sport cars and the most expensive cars which move fast in a short time. There are many similarities and differences between them in power, design, price and size. Compare and contrast between Bugatti and Porsche is the focus of this essay.
Agency for sport cars like the Bugatti and Porsche 911 prefer to be unique in the design of their cars.  As a result, it is difficult to recognize similarities between them. The major similarity between them is that both are made in Germany. Also, they have powerful engines. The Bugatti engine horse power is 1001 (Bovingdon 2010) and the Porsche 911 engine is 480- horse power (Renolds 2007). Both of them are developed and designed to be fast on the street.  Moreover, they are in some way similar in body size. In the Bugatti the length is 175.7, the width is 78.7 and the height is 47.4 inch (Bovingdon 2010) and the Porsche 911 body length is 175.2, the width is 72.9 and the height is 51.2 inch.
However, the differences between the Bugatti and the Porsche 911 are in price, weight and wheel size. The price between the Bugatti and the Porsche is slightly different; the Bugatti is selling for $1,980,000 (Bovingdon 2010). On the other hand the Porsche 911 price is $137,360-$140,780 (Renolds 2007). As the price shows the Bugatti is more expensive than the Porsche 911.  In addition the Porsche 911 is lighter than the Bugatti, 3650-3750 lb (mfr) and 4350 lb (mfr). The final differences in this essay is wheel size; the Bugatti wheels are larger than the Porsche 911 wheels. The Bugatti is 106.7 inch (Bovingdon 2010) compared to the Porsche 911 whice is 92.5 inch (Renolds 2007).
There are some interesting details about the Bugatti and the Porsche 911. Most people prefer the Porsche 911 because the price is suitable. On the other hand the Bugatti is more expensive and rare to see in the street. If there is one directly you point in your mind that the driver is from the high class level. The other interesting feature in both of them is the speed; Bugatti's top speed is 431 Km/h compare to the Porsche 911 top speed is 312 Km/h. Also, I like the feature in Bugatti about “cooling off the engine which keeping the engine 10 radiators and a completely uncovered engine compartment” (Adams, Brown, & Lienert, 2006).

To sum up, I compared and contrasted the Bugatti and the Porsche 911 features such as size, price, and speed and engine power.  Both cars are fantastic and famous cars all over the world.  The safety quality is high.

Tunisia in Turmoil

This article talked about the revolution in Tunisia and how this demonstration affected and encouraged other people in different Middle East countries to stage coups against the government. It clearly explains how people in Tunisia started the revolution against their ruler Zain- Al Abdeen bin Ali, who lasted in power for twenty-three years. Tunisian turmoil happened for many reasons. One of the economic reasons is the number of unemployed people increased while the country GDP and income are great. Also, the living standard for most people is low. Moreover, the country’s outside trade was also developed. In addition, this article talked about Zain- Al Abdeen's flight from Tunisia to Saudi Arabia and how the citizens tried to follow him to kill him. After Zain- Al Abdeen stepped down the Tunisian people determined to have new policies and government for them. They started elections for a new rule which would be tolerant and just. They hope the new ruler preaches democracy and moderation.

Bibliography & Citation

Kharma and Hajjaj (1989) describe characteristics of conditional usage in writing by learners whose first language is Arabic. The Type 1 conditional (If + present + future) was the next most common form they encountered. They state that it generally does not pose a problem for Arab learners (Kharma and Hajjaj, p.138). This correlates with my experience in the UAE where I have found upper elementary and lower intermediate learners quickly demonstrate an ability to conceptualize and use the Type 1 conditional.
